This is a Great tutorial for beginners. I was amazed at how many cooks(Chef's) did not know how to clean and devein shrimp.

You can get a shrimp deveiner at most grocery or discount store. I got mine at Kroger.

Steele's gadget is great. It splits shell and deveins in one operation, and the vein just rinses away.THINK I've seen it at BB&B or maybe a fish market? Bobby.

I guess you have to do same procedure on the bottom side also. Have anybody noticed the same vein underneath as on top? I love shrimp, but I hate deveining.....

There is a utensil that is specifically for shelling and deveining shrip. I found it on vacation in Louisiana, but I'm sure you can find it online!

This seems flawless however in the real world not so easy. The trick of wiggling works on many shell fish like lobster and crabs. The big problem in this is the deveining. If one can't use both hands or has arthritis , even large hands and fingers this will be very tough. Using the tip of the paring knife is good if you can stabilize the body of the shrimp and the performer. Opening the vein area of the shrimp often results in mutalzation of the shrimp. There are plastic devices that are used to clear the debri but they can be destructive also. Pinching shears while stablizing the main body might work better for those needing ergo magic help.
