INGREDIENTS
For the Streusel:
1/2 cup firmly packed light or dark brown sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts
1/4 cup unsalted butter, chilled
For the Cake:
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
3/4 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
3 eggs
1 1/4 cups buttermilk mixed with 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 firm but ripe pears, such as Bosc, Anjou or Comice, peeled, cored, coarsely chopped
