    celery

    onions, quartered

    head savoy cabbage

    whole peppercorns
  • 2 qt
    water
  • 8 md
    beets
  • 1 Tbsp
    lemon juice
  • 1 tsp
    sugar
  • 1/8 tsp
    pepper
  • 1/4 tsp
    garlic powder

How To Make barszcz wigiljny (christmas borshch), mark's

    Simmer the vegetables with the peppercorns and salt in water for 30 minutes. Strain. Wash and bake the beets for 1/2 hour in a 350F oven. Peel, grate them coarsely, and add to the broth. Simmer for 5 more minutes. Add lemon juice and season to taste.
