When I make my baked ham it is the leftover meaty bone that is my best soup flavoring! In fact we like the soup after the dinner best!!! It is just wonderful.( posted my baked ham recipe)

Ingredients For my favorite leftover ham bone lentil soup

2 bagred lentils
-
1meaty ham bone leftover
-
2 mdcarrots, chopped
-
2 stalkcelery chopped
-
1 mdchopped onion
-
1 Tbspgarlic powder
-
2bay leaves
-
1 Tbsptomato paste
-
1 ccanned chopped tomatoes

1 Tbspolive oil, extra virgin
-
kosher salt and fresh pepper to taste at end
How To Make my favorite leftover ham bone lentil soup

1In a large soup pot cover ham bone with water ( ham hocks may be used if no meaty ham bone leftover)

2Add chopped celery Onions Carrots Tomatoes

3Add garlic powder, bay leafs , tomato paste

4Add lentils
-
5Simmer about two hours after bringing to a boil first
-
6Stir in olive oil at the end REMOVE ALL BAY LEAVES!!!!

7Cut meat off ham bone add to soup Toss bone away
-
8Season with salt and pepper to taste

9Serve with warm rolls or bread and butter or good crackers
