This is one of my mothers recipes that we all still use. Mother taught all her daughters to make this we still make it every Christmas Eve when we all get together. Mother doesn't cook anymore at 93 so we make it and it better be done right, Ha Ha.

Ingredients For moms old fashion bean soup

1 lbnavy beans

2 lgsmoked pork hocks

1 lgonion (diced)

2 stalkcelery (diced)

4 cwater
-
4 cchicken broth
-
4 lgcarrots
-
4 lgpotatoes

1/2 cflour
How To Make moms old fashion bean soup

1Go though navy beans and wash .soak beans over night.

2In a large kettle, add drained beans, pork hocks, onion, and celery.

3Cover with water and chicken broth.

4Bring to a boil uncovered then turn down and simmer for about an hour.

5Remove hocks from kettle let cool till you can take meat from bone.

6Add meat back in kettle.

7Add carrots and potatoes continue to simmer uncovered for another hour.

8Add water to small sauce pan and bring to boil.

9Whisk eggs slightly add 1 teaspoon of water.

10Add flour to eggs a little at a time till you have a sticky dough.

11Using a kitchen knife slide a little dough at a time into boiling water.

12The little dumplings will rise to the top when done.Drain.

13Add to soup simmer another 5 minutes and serve.
