Ingredients For split pea soup (crock pot)

  • 1-1/2 lb
    smoked ham shanks or ham hocks
  • 8 c
    water
  • 1 lb
    dry split peas, rinsed
  • 2 md
    potatoes, peeled & diced (2 cups)
  • 2 md
    carrots, peeled & finely chopped
  • 1
    onion, cut in half and thinly sliced
  • 1 c
    celery, chopped
  • garlic powder, to taste
  • salt & pepper, to taste

How To Make split pea soup (crock pot)

    Combine all ingredients in a large crock pot. Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste.

    Cover and cook on low heat setting for 12 hours. An hour before soup is done, remove ham shanks or ham hocks to a chopping board. Discard bones, skin and fat. Shred meat and return to the crock pot.

    Before serving, mash any remaining potato chunks with a potato masher. Stir and adjust seasonings, to taste.
