Ingredients For split pea soup (crock pot)

1-1/2 lbsmoked ham shanks or ham hocks

8 cwater

1 lbdry split peas, rinsed

2 mdpotatoes, peeled & diced (2 cups)

2 mdcarrots, peeled & finely chopped

1onion, cut in half and thinly sliced

1 ccelery, chopped
-
garlic powder, to taste

salt & pepper, to taste
How To Make split pea soup (crock pot)

1Combine all ingredients in a large crock pot. Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste.

2Cover and cook on low heat setting for 12 hours. An hour before soup is done, remove ham shanks or ham hocks to a chopping board. Discard bones, skin and fat. Shred meat and return to the crock pot.

3Before serving, mash any remaining potato chunks with a potato masher. Stir and adjust seasonings, to taste.
