This recipe was recieved from a community named Homestead Heritage near Waco, Texas. They use only natural and homegrown ingredients including all their spices. This is best served on a cool fall afternoon with fresh homemade bread, but can be enjoyed anytime. A bit spicy but oh so yummy. Haven't met anyone who doesn't like it. Try it, you will like it too!

Ingredients For jalapeno sweet potato soup

3 slicebacon,chopped

1 mdonion,diced

2 Tbspbutter, room temperature

3 clovegarlic,chopped

4 lbsweet potates,peeled and cubed

8 cchicken or vegetable broth
-
1/4 cpickled jalapenos
-
2 Tbspjalapeno juice
-
1 tspcumin
-
1/4 tspbaking soda
-
1/2 cfresh cilantro, chopped

1 1/2 chalf and half
-
1 tspsalt
-
1 tspfreshly ground black pepper
How To Make jalapeno sweet potato soup

1Heat butter in an 8 quart stockpot. Add bacon and onion and cook until bacon crisp. Add garlic and saute for 2 minutes.

2Add sweet potatoes, broth, jalapenos, juice and cumin. Cover and cook until potatoes are tender.

3When potatoes are done, add soda, cilantro and half and half. Mash potatoes with a potato masher or use an immersion blender.

4Stir well and taste for salt and pepper. Serve immediately.
