Granny has been making this recipe for years & now I have adopted it. EVERYONE loves it! I always double the recipe so I can share some and then freeze the leftovers.

Ingredients For granny's red beans & rice

  • 1 can
    red beans
  • 1 c
    water
  • 1
    clove garlic chopped
  • 1
    celery rib
  • chopped fresh parsley
  • 1
    large bay leaf or 2 small
  • 1
    medium onion, chopped
  • 1 can
    tomatoes, i like fire roasted
  • 2
    hambones
  • 1
    cajun sausage links, cooked
  • pinch
    salt
  • rice
  • can add cayenne or hot peppers if you like it spicy. (i do!)

How To Make granny's red beans & rice

  • 1
    Add ham bone, salt & red beans to boiling water. After heating add garlic, celery, bay leaf, onion & tomatoes.

    Cook for 1 hour adding water if needed. Just depends on how thick or soupy you like yours.

    Add cooked sausage. When done, remove ham hocks and Pull the meat off & return to boiler.

    Serve on scoops of rice, white or brown are both good.
