10onions, thinly sliced

2 Tbspbutter, melted

1 Tbspsugar

8 cvegetable broth
-
2 Tbspbrandy or cognac

1 tspeach of salt and pepper

12baguette slices

2 cshredded swiss cheese
How To Make classic french onion soup

1In a medium to large slow cooker, combine onions and butter. Toss well and cover. Cook on high for 1 hour.

2Add sugar. Stir. Fold a clean tea towel in half over top of crock pot to absorb moisture. Cook on high for 4 hours, stirring two or three times, replacing towel.

3Remove towel and add broth, brandy and seasoning. Stir well. Cook on high for 2 more hours.

4Preheat broiler. Ladle soup into 6 ovenproof bowls. Place 2 bread slices in each bowl and sprinkle with cheese. Broil 2 to 3 minutes. Serve hot.
