Years ago when my son was in boy scouts I won the chili cook off with this recipe. The boys served as judges so I guess my secret ingredient of brown sugar gave them the sweet heat that they liked.

Ingredients For my award winning molasses chili

1 1/2 lbground beef

1 lgonion diced

salt and pepper to taste

2 can14.5 oz. chili beans

1 lgcan 28 oz. crushed tomtoes

1 lgcan 15 oz tomato sauce

1 cbeef broth
-
1/2 cmolasses
-
1/2 cpacked brown sugar

3 Tbspchili powder
-
2 Tbspeach cumin and red pepper flakes

1 Tbspsmoked paprika
-
shredded cheddar cheese for serving (optional)
How To Make my award winning molasses chili

1Brown the ground beef with the onions and season with salt and pepper. Drain. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil.

2Reduce heat and simmer 1 hour adding some water if it gets too thick.

3Sprinkle cheese on top to serve.
