I love chili-dogs, and this is a great way to have them without the bread (which I think just gets in the way of great chili!)

Ingredients For chili-dog chili

  • 1 lb
    hamburger
  • olive oil, extra virgin
  • hot chile oil
  • 1 md
    onion
  • 2 clove
    garlic
  • 6-8
    hotdogs (wimmers natural casing is best)
  • 3 can
    mexican stewed tomatoes
  • 1 can
    (large) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 bottle
    tomato vegetable juice
  • 1-2 can
    chopped green chiles
  • 3 can
    chili beans
  • 2 Tbsp
    chili powder
  • 2 Tbsp
    cumin
  • 2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    pepper
  • 2 c
    shredded sharp cheddar cheese

How To Make chili-dog chili

    Brown hamburger. Drain and put into large soup pot. Chop onion, saute in hot oils until translucent. Grate garlic cloves into pan for the last couple minutes of sauteing. Add to soup pot.

    Add more oils to pan, heat. Cut hotdogs into bite-sized pieces. Cook until well browned, add to soup pot.

    Empty stewed tomatoes into a bowl, cut into smaller bite-sized pieces with two table knives. Add to hot pan to de-glaze and reduce juices to half. Add to soup pot.

    Add beans, juice, crushed tomatoes, chiles and seasonings to soup pot. Stir and taste for any needed adjustments. Simmer 15-20 minutes. Top with 1/4 cup cheese to each bowl before serving.
