This recipe came about because I had a number of ingredients on hand with no specific plans for them, so I decided to invent something new. I also had a new slow cooker that I wanted to try out.

Ingredients For ellen's pantry stew

  • 1 lb
    lean ground beef
  • 3 lb
    baby Yukon potatoes, cut in half
  • 1/2 c
    chopped celery
  • 1/2 c
    chopped green pepper
  • 1/2 c
    chopped onion
  • 2 or 3 clove
    garlic, chopped
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    black pepper
  • 1 or 2
    beef bouillon cubes
  • 1 pkg
    Hidden Valley ranch seasoning
  • 1 Tbsp
    Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 can
    diced tomatoes with juice

How To Make ellen's pantry stew

    In a large skillet, brown the beef over medium heat, stirring frequently. Pour off the grease and add the meat to a slow cooker.

    Add the potatoes, celery, green pepper, onion, garlic, salt and pepper. Stir.

    In a small bowl, mix together the bouillon cubes, a small amount of hot water, the ranch dressing mix, and Worcestershire sauce. Add to the slow cooker.

    Cook on high for 4 hours or low for 8 hours.

    Add the tomatoes to the mixture and stir thoroughly.

    Serve while hot and enjoy!
