I got a version of this recipe at least 25 years ago and have tweaked it for personal preference. You would never know most of the ingredients come from cans.

Ingredients For can-can soup

  • 2 lb
    ground beef (i prefer ground round)
  • 2 can
    condensed chicken gumbo soup
  • 2 can
    condensed minestrone soup
  • 1 can
    tomato-basil soup (not condensed), such as progresso
  • 2 can
    ro-tel tomatoes
  • 1
    onion, chopped
  • 1
    bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 clove
    garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp
    dried basil (optional)
  • 2 Tbsp
    dried parsley (optional)
  • salt & pepper to taste

How To Make can-can soup

  • 1
    In a 5-quart Ducth oven, brown ground beef with onions, peppers & garlic; drain off fat.
  • 2
    Add remaining ingredients and simmer 1-1/2 to 2 hrs., or even longer.
  • 3
    Option: Brown beef, onions, peppers & garlic & put in a 6-quart slow cooker. Add remaining ingredients and cook on low 7-8 hours or on high 4-5 hours.
