Blue Ribbon Recipe

This makes a great after school snack! Make sure to keep it out of sight, or you may have little hands sneaking a handful or two. It's sweet, salty and has a great crunch.

Ingredients For school fuel

  • 3/4 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 6 Tbsp
    margarine or butter (do not use spread or tub products)
  • 3 Tbsp
    corn syrup, light
  • 1/4 tsp
    baking soda
  • 4 c
    corn chex
  • 4 c
    rice chex
  • 1/4 c
    semi-sweet chocolate chips

How To Make school fuel

  • 1
    Cover cookie sheet with waxed paper. Microwave brown sugar, margarine and corn syrup until margarine is melted.

    Stir in baking soda until dissolved. Stir in cereals, microwave on high for 3 minutes, stirring every minute. Spread on cookie sheet.

    Cool 10 minutes, then break into bite size pieces. Microwave chocolate chips in small microwavable bowl on high until chocolate can be stirred smooth.

    Drizzle chocolate over snack, refrigerate until chocolate is set. Store in airtight container.
