This is a very old recipe. When my mother in law was just a little girl, she knew that making clothes had a pattern, but at that time she didn't know that with cooking it was a recipe. So she asked Pearl Weddle for her pattern for her chess cakes. It has been called a pattern ever since.

We cut small rounds from a refrigerated pie crust to make our mini shells.

    Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Using a cup cake pan, line each cup cake with pie dough.

    Combine the remaining ingredients to make a batter. Then fill each mini pie with the batter.
