Northern Europeans enjoy open-faced sandwiches at tea-time or Abendbrot, as they say in Germany. Havarti matches well with lingonberries and dill. It's best on a hearty, rye or multi-grain bread.

Ingredients For open-faced havarti sandwiches

  • 2 slice
    hearty, whole grain bread
  • 2 tsp
    butter
  • 8 slice
    havarti cheese
  • honey mustard
  • lingonberry preserves
  • dill, minced (or dry) for garnish

How To Make open-faced havarti sandwiches

  • 1
    Spread butter on each slice of bread. Cover bread with havarti cheese.
  • 2
    Add a line of mustard between each slice of cheese. Put a bit of preserves in the center of each slice of cheese. Sprinkle dill over the top of each sandwich.
