A dear friend of ours, Reade Foushee, served this during happy hour while down at the beach. He shared the recipe with me so I'm passing it on to those of you that might be interested. It is a little time consuming but well worth it to me. It makes a lot so I keep it in the freezer (it doesn't actually freeze). This way you don't have to make it so often. Great to have on hand if you're having a party b/c you can make it ahead of time (weeks even) and freeze it in gallon ziplock bags.

How To Make reade's savory snack mix

  • 1
Pour first 6 ingredients into a clean, medium-size trash bag and set aside. NOTE: You can use whatever you like such as mini pretzels, cheese-its, cheestos, potato fries in the bag, etc. Just try to stick to the total amount of snack mix to make sure you have enough oil and seasoning to cover.

Mix oil and dry ranch dressing mix together and pour into bag over snack mix. Mix very gently with your hands a few minutes to coat well. I actually twist up the bag and keep rolling around until I think they are all coated well.

Transfer to several shallow baking pans & bake @ 200 for approximately 55 minutes, stirring every 10 to 15 minutes being careful not to burn. I normally just shake the pan back and forth.

Once cooled down, you may freeze in 1 gallon ziplock bags and take out what you need as you need.

This is well worth the time involved. If you don't have several pans just keep using what you have making sure you clean pans in between cookings.
