Sirupssnipper (cookie)

Sirupssnipper (diamond shaped Norwegian Christmas cookies with an almond on top) is almost as big part of Christmas as Julenissen, the Norwegian Santa Claus - only almost. This traditional Norwegian cookie recipe has been around for ages.

The cookies are fun to make and even "funner" to eat. In Norway, baking "snipper" cookies for the Christmas Holidays is a must.

Ingredients:

3 cups flour
•
1/2 cup dark Karo syrup
•
1/2 cup sugar
•
3/4 cup butter
•
1 teaspoon cinnamon
•
1 teaspoon cloves, ground
•
1/2 teaspoon cardamom
•
1/2 teaspoon ginger
•
1 teaspoon baking soda
•
1/2 cup blanched almonds
•
1 tablespoon brandy or water
•
1 teaspoon salt
•
1 egg white for brushing cookies
