How To Make turnip greens
-
1If using fresh greens, fill one side of sink with cold water and 1 teaspoon salt. Rinse leaves and place in other side of the sink. Repeat this process until leaves are clean. Cut stems from leaves and discard them.
-
2Place 2 quarts water in a large pot. Add salt, jalapeno pepper, and bacon. Boil covered 20 minutes.
-
3Place washed and cut greens in boiling water, a few leaves at a time. Pour sugar over top of greens. Add hot sauce and wine.
-
4Cook greens over medium heat until tender (about 1-1/2 hours).
-
5If desired, wash and dice turnips. Add to boiling water and cook with turnip greens.
-
6Note: Turnip greens will cook down. If needed, add water, just to cover greens during cooking.
