When I was growing up, my grandparents grew okra. We had this quite often growing up. When corn was in season, we would add some of that too!

Ingredients For southern stewed okra

1 lbfresh okra

1/2 conion, finely chopped

1/2 cgreen bell pepper, minced

2 clovegarlic, minced

3 Tbspbutter, melted

3 cfresh tomato, chopped

1 1/2 tspsalt
-
1 tspfresh parsley, minced

1/4 tspblack pepper
-
1/8 tspground red pepper
How To Make southern stewed okra

1Rinse the okra; drain well, and pat dry. Remove the tips and stem ends. Set aside.

2Saute onion, green pepper, and garlic in the butter in a Dutch oven over medium heat until tender. Add the okra, tomato, and remaining ingredients.

3Cover and cook 20 minutes or until the okra is tender, stirring occasionally.
