Ingredients For smothered cabbage

  • 1 c
    onion, chopped
  • 1 c
    ham, chopped
  • 2 Tbsp
    oil
  • 1
    large head cabbage, coarsley chopped
  • 1/2 c
    water
  • 1 tsp
    sugar
  • cayenne, to taste
  • salt and pepper

How To Make smothered cabbage

    In a large heavy pot, cook onions and ham in oil over medium heat, until the onions are wilted, about 5 minutes. Add cabbage, water, sugar, cayenne, salt and pepper. Cover pot and cook, stirring occasionally about 30 minutes, or until the cabbage is soft and tender.
