Ingredients For red onion rings

3large red onions, cut into 1/4 inch slices

1/2 cbuttermilk

2 cvegetable oil

1/2 cself rising flour

1/2 ccornmeal

1 tspcayenne pepper

1 tspsalt

1 tspblack pepper
How To Make red onion rings

1Combine onions and buttermilk in a large bowl; soak for 5 minutes.

2Meanwhile, pour oil into a large pot to a depth of 1-1/2 inches; heat to 375 degrees.

3Mix flour, cornmeal, cayenne, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl. Drain onion rings.

4Working in small batches, add a few onion rings to flour mixture and turn to coat. Carefully add to oil. Fry until golden brown, 2 minutes. Drain on paper towel. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
