Ingredients For red cabbage salad/blaukrautsalat

  • 1 sm
    head red cabbage, washed and shredded
  • 1 1/2 c
    boiling water
  • 2 1/2 Tbsp
    apple cider vinegar
  • 3 slice
    bacon, chopped
  • 1
    white onion, peeled and chopped
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    pepper
  • 1 dash
    sugar

How To Make red cabbage salad/blaukrautsalat

  • 1
    Put cabbage in a heat-proof glass or ceramic bowl. Mix 1 tablespoon vinegar with boiling water and pour mixture over cabbage. (Vinegar prevents cabbage from losing color.) Let stand for a minute, then drain and return cabbage to bowl.

    Saute bacon and onions until onions are golden brown and bacon is crisp. Add to cabbage with remaining ingredients, toss, and serve immediately.
