My sister-in-law was born and raised in Germany and serves a variation of Creamed Cabbage with potato dumplings. I've tweaked the recipe and made some changes that make this a great side or sauce. For extra flavor, serve with crumbled bacon.

Ingredients For mel's creamed cabbage

  • 1
    savoy cabbage
  • 1
    onion
  • 1 c
    heavy cream
  • salt and pepper to taste.
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter

How To Make mel's creamed cabbage

  • 1
    Boil chopped cabbage in salted water until soft. Drain and set aside.

    Melt butter in frying pan and add one chopped onion. Cook on medium heat until translucent.

    Add cooked cabbage and onions to food processor with heavy cream. Pulse to break it up and then blend until smooth and creamy.

    Add salt and pepper to taste. Mixture should be smooth and not grainy. Serve with dumplings, noodles, and meat of your choice.
