Grandma had seven sweets and seven sours on the table for every family dinner. Pickles, relishes and dishes like this Hot Slaw were considered sours.

Ingredients For hot slaw

  • 1 qt
    cabbage, shredded
  • 1 tsp
    kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 Tbsp
    sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 c
    water
  • 1/2 tsp
    dijon mustard
  • 1/2 c
    sour cream

How To Make hot slaw

  • 1
    Melt butter in a saucepan and add shredded cabbage. Stir until butter is well mixed through the cabbage. Add water and salt and cover tightly. Cook for 10 minutes and then add the sugar and vinegar and mustard. Simmer another minute and then add the sour cream. Serves 4.
