Ingredients For home-style butterbeans

8 slicebacon, diced (see note)

1 mdonion, minced

1/2 cbrown sugar, firmly packed

1 - 16 oz. pkgbutter beans, frozen

12 cwater
-
1/4 cbutter, cold
-
2 tspsalt
-
1 tspblack pepper
How To Make home-style butterbeans

1Cook bacon & onion in a large dutch oven over medium heat 7 minutes. Add brown sugar & cook; stirring occasionally, 2 minutes or until sugar is dissolved. Stir in butter beans & butter until butter is melted & beans are thoroughly coated. Stir in 12 C. water.

2Bring to a boil over medium-high heat; reduce heat to low & simmer, stirring occasionally, 2 hours or until beans are very tender & liquid is thickened & just below top of beans. Stir in salt & pepper.
