grama's peas

This recipe comes from my maternal grandmother. It's been served at our family holiday meals for, gosh, 50 years or more. My grandmother is not with us anymore (I miss you, Grama)...but her peas live on. These sound weird but taste amazing....and sadly, they are NOT low-cal. C'est la vie.
