Ingredients For german red cabbage

  • 3 c
    red cabbage, thinly sliced & about 1 to 2-inch long
  • 1 lg
    apple (such as gala, spartan or mcintosh), peeled, cored and diced
  • 1/4 c
    red onions, diced
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    brown sugar, such as demerara
  • 1 1/2 oz
    organic apple cider vinegar
  • 1 1/2 oz
    water
  • 1/2 tsp
    freshly ground black pepper, or to taste (i always use mixed peppercorns)
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground cloves

How To Make german red cabbage

  • 1
    In a wide saucepan (Wok) over medium heat, add butter and sauté onion, about 2 – 3 minutes. Add apple and sugar; cook for 2 – 3 minutes. Stir in vinegar, water and cabbage; add pepper and cloves.

    Bring to a boil then reduce heat to low, cover and simmer until cabbage is tender, about 40 minutes.
