I love this as a main dish or a side dish ever since my grandma used to make this and spoon bread. I hope you enjoy!!

Blue Ribbon Recipe

We loved how this fried cabbage with bacon uses three types of cabbage (green, red, and savoy). They all taste the same, but each has a slightly different texture. Frying down the cabbage in bacon grease is a fantastic way to cook cabbage. There's plenty of flavor thanks to the bacon and seasonings. You can serve this side dish with just about anything. It would be delicious with corned beef, burgers, steak, or roasted chicken.

How To Make fried cabbage with bacon

  • Chopping the cabbage, onion, and bell pepper.
    1
Prep: Chop each head of cabbage. After chopping rinse well and dry. Chop the bell pepper and onion. Set them aside.
  • Frying chopped bacon.
    2
Fry: In a skillet, fry the 1/2 pound of bacon until crisp. (Not burnt... lol).
  • Fried bacon removed from the pot.
    3
Then extract the bacon, leaving the drippings from the bacon in the pan.
  • Cooking onions and peppers in bacon grease.
    4
Then add onion and bell peppers and fry until they have broken down and caramelized.
  • Green cabbage added to the pot.
    5
After that, add the green cabbage.
  • Red cabbage added to the pot.
    6
    Then add the red cabbage.
  • Savoy cabbage added to the pot.
    7
After the red and green cabbage has cooked down for about 3 min, add the savoy cabbage (savoy cabbage cooks very fast).
  • Garlic and onion powder and Goya seasoning added.
    8
Add the 2 shakes of garlic and onion powder and Goya vegetable seasoning. Stir or flip until it reaches your desired texture. (Some like their cabbage crisp, some like theirs a bit mushy).
  • When almost cooked, bacon added to the pot.
    9
When the cabbage is almost at your desired texture, add the bacon back to it. Once it's at your desired texture, add a pinch of sugar and butter. Remove from heat and plate. Enjoy!!!
