My husband's grandmother made these delicious onions as a side dish for all the family gatherings. Every time I make these I think of her and the wonderful holiday meals she made for the family.

Ingredients For creamed onions

  • 2
    14 ounce packages frozen pearl onions
  • 4 Tbsp
    butter
  • 3 Tbsp
    all purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/8 tsp
    pepper
  • 2 1/2 c
    whole milk (or half and half)
  • 4 oz
    shredded muenster cheese

How To Make creamed onions

  • 1
    Cook onions according to directions on package. Drain well.

    Meanwhile, in a medium size saucepan, melt the butter. Stir in flour, salt and pepper. Mix well and cook over medium high heat for 2 minutes.

    Add the milk, stirring constantly, and cook until thick and bubbly.

    Add the cheese and stir to melt. Add the onions, mix well and cook an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through.
