Ingredients For bread & butter pickles, aunt margie's

  • 4 qt
    sliced cucumbers
  • 1 pt
    sliced onions
  • 1/4 c
    uniodized salt
  • 5 c
    sugar
  • 3 c
    vinegar
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    turmeric
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    celery seed
  • 2 tsp
    mustard seed

How To Make bread & butter pickles, aunt margie's

    Wash, but do not pare medium sized cucumbers. Slice thin and add onion and salt. Cover with ice cubes, stir occasionally. Let stand 3 hours. Drain. Combine remaining ingredients. Pour over cucumber mixture. Heat JUST TO BOILING. Can and seal. Makes about 6 pints. The less boiling the crisper the pickles are. Extra juice can be saved and used in another batch.
