Baked beans are one of my favorites, all year round. My mother used to always serve them with meatloaf, which is a very good combination. She made hers in the oven, but I think the slow cooker is the way to go. Recipe & photo: justhungry.com

Ingredients For all day boston baked beans

1 lbnavy beans

1 lgonion, sliced

4 clovegarlic, roughly chopped

1chunk fresh ginger, peeled and grated

4 Tbspmolasses, or 4-5 tbs. dark brown sugar

3 ozsmoked ham or bacon
-
2-3bay leaves
-
2 tspsalt
-
1 pinchblack pepper
-
1 tspdried mustard
-
1 tspdried thyme
-
1 tspdried cumin
-
1 tspcayenne pepper
-
1/2 cketchup
-
water
How To Make all day boston baked beans

1Place all the ingredients into a large slow cooker. Pour in water to about 1-1/2 inch above the level of the beans. Mix well.

2Cover and cook on LOW for 6 hours. Add water as needed. Cook an additional 2 to 3 hours. If you can't be there to check water level, add more to start with, and cook on LOW for 8-9 hours.
