A great side dish to steak and potatoes. This recipe comes from one of my old Junior League cookbooks.

Ingredients For steakhouse-style stewed tomato casserole

  • 1 sm
    onion, chopped
  • 4 Tbsp
    butter
  • 1 1/2 c
    bread cubes (dry, plain)
  • 1/2 c
    light brown sugar
  • 5 c
    canned tomatoes (crushed, diced or fire-roasted)
  • 1 tsp
    salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp
    freshly ground black pepper

How To Make steakhouse-style stewed tomato casserole

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Saute onion in butter until soft, but not browned. Add bread cubes and brown sugar. Cook and stir over low heat for 3-5 minutes. Stir in tomatoes and season with salt and pepper.

    Transfer mixture to a greased shallow casserole dish. Bake 30-40 minutes or until bubbly.
