How To Make scalloped potatoes au gratin
-
1Note: You can parboil potatoes if in a hurry.
-
2Place half the potato slices in 1 1/2 qt. greased baking dish. Sprinkle a little pepper on top of slices.
-
3Make a roux from the butter and flour. Whisk constantly, until smooth. Add cayenne pepper, salt, and cheddar cheese. When cheese is melted, pour HALF the sauce over potatoes.
-
4Add second layer of potatoes. Top with remaining cheese sauce. Sprinkle with a little more paprika and cayenne. You can also sprinkle on a little extra shredded cheddar cheese if the mood strikes you.
-
5Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 60 min. or until potatoes are tender. Gently stir about half way through to prevent the bottom potatoes from getting too brown.
