Don't forget to have your black-eyed peas on New Year's day for good luck in 2015! This is an awesome black-eyed pea recipe that I have always used on New Year's day. It is originally from Southern Living. It is "Cajun" style and has a little kick to it.

Ingredients For cajun blackeyed peas

1 lbdried blackeyed peas

8 cwater
-
6 slicebacon
-
1 bunchgreen onions, chopped

1large onion, chopped

1green bell pepper, chopped

1 cfresh parsely, chopped

1small jalapeno, seeded and minced

3 clovegarlic, minced
-
2 Tbspworchestershire sauce
-
1/4 tsptabasco
-
1 1/2 tspsalt
-
1 tsppepper
-
1/4 tspdried oregano
-
1/4 tspdried thyme
-
1 lbsmoked sausage, sliced
-
1 1/2 csmoked ham, chopped
-
1 can(14.5 oz) chopped tomatoes with green chilies
How To Make cajun blackeyed peas

1Sort and wash peas.

2Place in a large dutch oven, add water to depth of 2 in. above peas. Cover and let stand 8 hours or overnight.

3Drain peas and return to dutch oven.

4Add 8 cups water; bring to a boil.

5Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

6Add bacon and next 12 ingredients; return to a boil.

7Cover, reduce heat and simmer 30 minutes or until peas are tender.

8Add sausage, ham, and tomatoes; return to a boil.

9Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 30 minutes.

10Remove bacon, if desired.
