This recipe was passed to me through a very near and dear friend. Now I bring it to all my family and friends' gatherings. Always gets rave reviews.

Blue Ribbon Recipe

Sweet, tangy, and hearty, these baked beans will be a fantastic addition to a summer cookout. We used bacon and ground meat, so they were filled with meat. Adding different beans gives the baked beans many textures. The butter beans are different and add a rustic feel to the side dish. This makes a large pot of beans that everyone will enjoy.

How To Make ride 'em baked beans

Test Kitchen Tips
We cooked ours for an hour on the stove, stirring every 15 minutes.
  • Bacon and onions in a Dutch oven to brown.
    1
In a 6qt pot or large skillet, brown together the bacon and onions until bacon is crispy and onions are soft. Careful not to burn either as it will alter the taste of your beans.
  • Browning ground beef with bacon and onions.
    2
Add ground beef and jalapeno peppers also if desired. Drain off drippings.
  • Beans added to the pot.
    3
Either in the 6qt pot or a slow cooker (your choice depends on your preference), add the beans.
  • Remaining ingredients added to the pot.
    4
    Add all the remaining ingredients.
  • Stirring the beans while they cook.
    5
Stir well to blend all the flavors together. If using a pot on top of the stove heat thoroughly on very low heat (about 30-35 minutes). Keep covered and stir to blend flavors at least 2-3 times while heating. Add your salt and pepper as needed when stirring together.
