homemade baked beans

This was my mom's recipe that she handed down to me. I always loved her baked beans. This can easily be doubled or more for large crowds of people. Perfect for a potluck or cookout. You can also bake this in a crock pot to take with you. Just bake for about 4-6 hours in crock pot instead of in oven. For the mustard, I like Dijon, but I have also used yellow mustard or Gulden's spicy mustard.

Ingredients For homemade baked beans

  • 40 oz
    can navy or great northern beans, do not drain
  • 1/2 c
    packed brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1/4 c
    dark molasses (not karo or corn syrup)
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 6 slice
    bacon, crisply cooked and crumbled
  • 1 md
    onion, chopped
  • 1/2 to 3/4 c
    ketchup (to your taste)
  • 1 Tbsp
    mustard (your favorite kind)

How To Make homemade baked beans

    Mix all ingredients together in a large casserole.

    Bake at 350 degrees, covered, for approximately one hour and fifteen minutes.

    Serves approximately 6-8 people.
