This was my Grandma's recipe to use up extra onions in her garden. She made everything from scratch, including pie crust. I make it easier by using store bought pie crust.

Ingredients For grandma's onion pie

3 lgsweet onions, sliced thin

1 Tbspbutter
-
3 lgeggs
-
2 ccream or half and half
-
salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

1/2 tsppaprika

6 slicebacon, cooked and crumbled

1/2 cshredded cheddar cheese

1pastry for double crust pie
How To Make grandma's onion pie

1In a skillet, saute onions in butter, stiring constantly, until golden brown and carmelized.

2In a bowl, beat together eggs and cream. Add the onions, salt, pepper, and paprika.

3Line a deep-dish 9 inch pie plate with bottom pastry. Add egg mixture; sprinkle with bacon and cheese. Roll out remaining pastry to fit top of pie. Place over filling. Seal and flute the edges; cut slits in top.

4Bake at 350 degrees F for 55-60 minutes or until crust is golden brown. Let stand 15 minutes before cutting. Refrigerate leftovers.
