This brand new macaroni and cheese recipe I created is inspired by a Chinese dish. But instead of bell peppers, I decided to use pepperoncini and banana peppers. The mac is filled with sliced flank steak and tossed in a one-of-a-kind ginger cheese sauce.

Ingredients For macaroni and cheese with pepper steak

  • 1 lb
    uncooked elbow macaroni
  • 1 Tbsp
    olive oil
  • 1 lb
    beef flank steak, sliced thin
  • 5
    pepperoncini peppers, sliced
  • 2
    banana peppers, sliced
  • 1 Tbsp
    steak seasoning
  • 3 tsp
    ground ginger
  • 2 Tbsp
    Dijon mustard mixed with brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    margarine
  • 1 c
    heavy whipping cream
  • 1 can
    evaporated milk
  • 1 c
    half and half
  • 8 oz
    cream cheese, softened
  • 1 Tbsp
    ground ginger
  • 3/4 c
    shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 8 oz
    monterey jack cheese, shredded
  • 8 oz
    colby jack cheese, shredded

How To Make macaroni and cheese with pepper steak

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

    Coat the bottom and sides of a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish with cooking spray.

    Cook the elbow macaroni according to package directions; drain.
  • 4
    Heat the olive oil in a large, deep skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced flank steak, sliced pepperoncini and banana peppers abd cook for 6 minutes until the steak is browned and the peppers are tender.

    Mix with steak seasoning, ground ginger and Dijon mustard/brown sugar. Remove from heat. Transfer to a greased casserole dish and spread evenly.

    Melt the margarine in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Combine the heavy whipping cream, evaporated milk, half and half, cream cheese and ground ginger; whisk well and simmer for 5 minutes until blended and thickened.

    Reduce heat to low. Add cooked macaroni and shredded cheeses and stir well until combined. Remove from heat.

    Spoon the macaroni mixture onto the pepper steak mixture and mix well.

    Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
