This new baked macaroni recipe I created is inspired by a burger topping: mushrooms and Swiss. This is delicious! It's great with fried chicken.

12 ozelbow macaroni

1 Tbspolive oil

1 cmargarine, divided

5white button mushrooms, sliced

2 clovegarlic, minced

3 tspranch seasoning

1/2 call purpose flour

1/2 chalf and half
-
1 1/2 cwhole milk
-
8 ozSwiss cheese, shredded

1/2 cgrated Parmesan cheese

1 cpanko bread crumbs
-
2 tspground black pepper
-
6 sliceSwiss cheese
How To Make baked macaroni with mushroom and swiss

1Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

2Coat the bottom and sides of a 13- x 9-inch baking dish with cooking spray.

3Cook the macaroni according to package directions; drain.

4Heat the olive oil and 1/2 cup margarine in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the mushrooms and saute for 8 minutes or until browned. Stir in the minced garlic and ranch seasoning. Remove from the heat. Set aside.

5In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the remaining margarine. Whisk in the flour until completely smooth and let cook 1 minute until golden brown. Slowly whisk in the half and half and milk until the mixture is smooth. Bring to a simmer over medium heat until the sauce is bubbly and thickened.

6Remove the sauce from the heat and whisk in the shredded Swiss cheese and grated Parmesan cheese until melted. Add the cooked macaroni and mushroom mixture and stir until evenly combined.

7Transfer into the greased baking dish. Sprinkle the bread crumbs all over the macaroni mixture. Season with black pepper and top with the Swiss cheese slices.

8Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown.
