Ingredients For pilau rice

1 Tbspghee
-
1 Tbspcanola oil
-
1 cfinely chopped white onions
-
1/2 tspground Himalayan pink salt

1 smclove garlic, pressed
-
1cinnamon stick
-
5cardamom pods
-
4whole cloves
-
1 tspcumin seeds
-
1 1/2 tspground turmeric
-
1 1/2 cbasmati rice, rinsed thoroughly and drained
-
3 clow-sodium vegetable broth
-
1/2 tspfreshly ground black pepper (I always use mixed peppercorns)

2 lgbay leaves
How To Make pilau rice

1In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the ghee and oil. When hot and melted, add the onions and season with salt. Sauté for 5 minutes or until softened.

2Add the pressed garlic and sauté for 30 seconds.

3Add the cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, whole cloves, and cumin seeds. Stir the ingredients continuously for 2 minutes. Add the turmeric and stir to coat.

4Add the rice and mix well until coated.

5Pour in the broth, add freshly ground black pepper and bay leaves; stir.

6Increase heat to high and bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat to low, and cook for 15 - 16 minutes.

7When time is up, turn off the heat and let it sit for 10 minutes, covered.

8Uncover, remove cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, cloves, and bay leaves with tongs; discard.

9Using a fork, fluff the rice and serve immediately.
