This recipe is a favorite in our family! I've been making them this way for about 35 years now. It's also an easy recipe to double or triple, for a Thanksgiving crowd! You can cook the sweet potatoes early in the day, and prepare the sauce when you are ready! That's usually what I do!

Ingredients For candied sweet potatoes

  • 2 to 4
    medium sweet potatoes
  • 1/2 c
    brown sugar, packed
  • 3 Tbsp
    salted butter
  • 3 Tbsp
    water
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt

How To Make candied sweet potatoes

  • 1
Place the sweet potatoes, with skins on, in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat and simmer for about 30 minutes, until tender.
  • 2
Drain, and let cool slightly, so you can remove the skins. Then quarter the potatoes, and set aside.
  • Sauce is bubbling.
    3
THE SAUCE In a large skillet, melt the butter, and add the rest of the ingredients, stirring constantly until smooth. Cook until it's bubbling nicely.
  • 4
Add the sweet potato quarters to the mixture. Turning occasionally in the sauce after they cook a bit. Potatoes are ready, when they are glazed on both sides and heated through.
  • 5
Place in a serving dish, and enjoy!
