The secret is that these delicious scalloped potatoes are made with sliced canned potatoes! What a great time saver. They do not taste like canned potatoes at all. We can't tell the difference. You can also use fresh potatoes in this recipe, but the canned ones are so much easier to use! So it is time to throw away Betty Crocker's boxed potatoes. We think these are much better! Enjoy!

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon flour
  • 2 15 ounce cans of sliced potatoes, drained
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup fresh grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 heaping teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon leaf thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black coarse ground pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika for the top
  • chives or parsley to garnish

How To Make bonnie's scalloped potatoes with a secret!

    Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Grease a 9 inch baking dish with butter. To a medium saucepan, add 2 tablespoons butter to melt, then add minced garlic. Stir and cook for few seconds.

    Add the milk and whipping cream and stir for about two minutes until it starts to thicken, and then whisk in the flour, thyme, salt and pepper. Add 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, stir just to combine. Remove from heat.

    Place the potatoes in a colandar to drain, and pat dry with paper towels. Add the potatoes to the baking dish and gently fold in the sauce until the potatoes are well coated.

    Sprinkle paprika over the top of the dish, and Bake covered with tin foil at 375 for 20 minutes. Remove the cover and bake an additional 30 to 40 minutes until the edges are slightly brown. Enjoy!
