super simple hawaiian macaroni salad

There are so many variations of this salad on the internet. But there's no need for long lists of ingredients or complicated instructions. I learned this simple preparation from my Hawaiian friend, and it's the best I've had. BTW, anyone from Hawaii will tell you that there can be no substitutions when it comes to Best Foods (Hellmans on the East Coast) mayonnaise in this specific dish.

Ingredients For super simple hawaiian macaroni salad

  • 4 oz
    elbow macaroni
  • 1/3 c
    best foods mayonnaise (hellmans on the east coast))
  • 1/4 c
    carrots, shredded
  • 2 Tbsp
    onion, grated (including juice)
  • 1/4 tsp
    celery seeds
  • 1/4 tsp
    kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    black pepper

How To Make super simple hawaiian macaroni salad

    Cook the elbow macaroni in salted water until well done. Drain and place in a bowl.

    Add the mayonnaise, carrots, grated onion and celery seed. Add salt and pepper. Mix until all the pasta is coated. Taste and adjust seasoning.

    Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least an hour so the flavors can meld.

    To serve, remove from refrigerator 15-30 minutes before serving. It shouldn't be served ice cold.
