macaroni and garlic parmesan

I created a new macaroni and cheese recipe with 3 kinds of parmesan cheese: grated, shredded, and shaved. This is the ninth recipe in my series of new garlic Parmesan recipes.

Ingredients For macaroni and garlic parmesan

  • 3 c
    grated Parmesan cheese, divided
  • 1 lb
    dry elbow macaroni
  • 3 Tbsp
    garlic butter, divided
  • 1/4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 c
    whole milk
  • 1 c
    half and half
  • 1 bottle
    garlic Parmesan sauce
  • 1 c
    shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 1 c
    shaved Parmesan cheese
  • 8 oz
    cream cheese, softened
  • 3
    banana peppers, sliced
  • 10
    buttery round crackers, crushed

How To Make macaroni and garlic parmesan

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

    Coat a 13-x 9-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Add 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese.

    Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain.
  • 4
    Melt 2 tablespoons garlic butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Gradually whisk in flour. Cook, whisking constantly, 1 minute.

    Gradually whisk in milk, half & half and garlic Parmesan sauce until smooth. Cook, whisking constantly, 8 to 10 minutes or until slightly thickened.

    Mix 1 cup grated, shredded and shaved Parmesan cheese and cream cheese until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in sliced banana pepper and cooked macaroni.

    Pour macaroni mixture into the prepared baking dish.

    In a small bowl, combine crushed crackers, remaining grated Parmesan cheese and melted garlic butter together; sprinkle over macaroni mixture.

    Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
