best macaroni & cheese

I'm asked to make this alot. This is another recipe from my mom. She always served it with her meat loaf (recipe also posted). Beats out of the box kind any day of the week!

Ingredients For best macaroni & cheese

  • 16 oz
    box elbow macaroni
  • 1 1/2 c
    milk
  • 4 Tbsp
    butter
  • 1 lb
    block colby cheese
  • salt & pepper to taste

How To Make best macaroni & cheese

    Cook macaroni in salted boiling water until al-dente. Do not overcook or it will be mushy once it cooks in the oven.

    Shred cheese in food processor, put aside.
  • 3
    Combine milk, butter, salt & pepper. Heat in microwave just until butter is melted. Whisk together.

    Layer half the macaroni in a 9x13 casserole dish.

    Sprinkle half the cheese over macaroni.
  • 6
    Pour half the milk mixture over.
  • 7
    Repeat with remaining macaroni, cheese and milk mixture.

    Bake uncovered for 30 minutes at 350.
