A nice "southwestern" touch to regular pinto beans. Feel free to spice them up with additional hot sauce or jalapenos. A great bbq side dish. *Prep time does not include soaking the beans overnight.

Ingredients For spicy-sweet bbq pinto beans

1 lbdried pinto beans

5 cwater (or more as needed)

1onion, chopped

6 clovegarlic, chopped

1bay leaf
-
3/4 cketsup
-
6 Tbspdark brown sugar (packed)

5 Tbspyellow mustard
-
2 Tbspchili powder
-
2 Tbspworchestershire sauce
-
1 Tbsppaprika
-
hot pepper sauce to taste

1 1/2 tspdried thyme
How To Make spicy-sweet bbq pinto beans

1Place beans in a dutch oven with enough water to cover the beans by 3 inches and let soak overnight.

2Drain beans and return them to the pot. Add 5 cups of water, chopped onion, garlic, and the bay leaf to the pot. Bring to a boil and cook until just tender, stirring occasionally - approx. 1 hour.

3Stir in remaining ingredients and simmer until beans are very tender and flavors have blended well - approx. 30 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
