Here in the South, grits are offered at breakfast time. While they are great at breakfast or brunch, these grits also make a nice addition to an evening meal.

Ingredients For rich and creamy cheese grits

  • 2 c
    whole milk
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    black pepper
  • cayenne pepper, optional
  • 1/2 c
    quick grits
  • 1/2 c
    grated sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 c
    grated Monterey jack cheese

How To Make rich and creamy cheese grits

    Simmer the milk in a saucepan over medium-high heat until hot, being careful not to boil.

    Add salt, pepper and cayenne (if using). Whisk in the grits and reduce heat to medium. Continue whisking until smooth; cook approximately 8-10 minutes.

    Turn off the heat and add the cheese. Adjust seasoning as needed.
