This cornbread is sweet. Make sure you mix this by hand with a wooden spoon or whisk. Dont use an electric mixer.

Ingredients For maddy's southern sweet cornbread

  • 1/2 c
    cornmeal
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1 1/2 c
    flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 Tbsp
    baking powder
  • 2 lg
    eggs
  • 1/3 c
    oil
  • 3 Tbsp
    melted butter
  • 1 1/4 c
    whole milk

How To Make maddy's southern sweet cornbread

    Put first five dry ingredients in a large bowl. Mix together by hand with a whisk. Good cornbread is best mixed by hand without the use of electric kitchen instruments.

    Add remaining four wet ingredients to the bowl one at a time, while whisking until combined and the batter is smooth.

    Pour into a greased (I use vegetable oil) 8 X 10 baking pan.

    Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes until the top is slightly golden color and a toothpick comes out clean when inserted in the center.
