Ingredients For linda's southern fried green tomatoes

    egg, beaten
  • 1 c
    buttermilk
  • 1 c
    self-rising flour
  • 1/2 c
    cornmeal
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 6 - 8
    green tomatoes (cut into 1/4" slices)
  • bacon drippings or vegetable oil

How To Make linda's southern fried green tomatoes

    Mix egg & buttermilk together in a shallow dish. Mix flour,cornmeal and salt in a shallow dish. (If you don't have self-rising flour use: 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder & 1/2 tsp. salt.)

    Working in batches, dip tomato slices into egg mixture, allowing excess to drip back into dish. Coat with flour mixture.

    Fry in hot oil (375) in a large, heavy skillet until brown. Turn once with tongs. Transfer to colander or paper towels to drain.
